Concept Statement
Situated on top of the Kootenay Lake in Nelson B.C., this Lake House is inspired not only by the still and boundless lake but also the reflection created by the clean and pure water. The Bothersomes Lake House takes the stillness and pureness of Kootenay Lake and brings it alive into the interior- a family oriented home that provides comfort, relaxation and serenity.

Symmetry is one of the key elements of lake shown in Fig 2. The main floor plan are balanced symmetrically not only to indicate the stability and stillness of the lake but also to create an illusion of reflection. By using open shelves, these horizontal elements not only show the stability of the lake but also mimicking the translucency of the water.
The illusion of reflection is also shown in the reflective and transparent materials, such as acrylic kitchen cabinets, stainless steel appliances, concrete flooring, glass panels and mirrors.
The use of clean lines, continuous and extended space, horizontal elements, symmetrical layout and reflective material combined together to represent the characteristics of the Kootenay Lake and establish the simplicity, serenity and peace of country living for the Bothersomes.
